ORS Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request

Feb 28, 2020

Michigan Office of Retirement Services - for MPSERS Members

The Office of Retirement Services (ORS) recently received another Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. This request came from:

Jarrett Skorup
Mackinac Center for Public Policy
P.O. Box 48640
Midland, MI 48640
mackinac.org

The request specifically asks for “the data provided under FOIA to American Transparency that includes first name, middle initial, last name, last employer zip code, last employer, and monthly annuity amount for retired public school employees that were paid a monthly pension in school FY2019." ORS released the following information in response to this request: first name, middle initial, last name, last employer zip code, last employer, and monthly annuity amount for retired public school employees who are paid a monthly pension.

ORS does not disclose personally identifiable information, such as Social Security numbers, dates of birth, contact information, beneficiary information, or medical records.

Michigan’s Freedom of Information Act (Act 442 of 1976), which is intended to ensure that citizens have access to information about their government, requires ORS to comply with this request and others that may be submitted. If you have any questions about why the information was requested or how it may be used, please contact Jarret Skorup.

If you’d like more information about Michigan’s Freedom of Information Act, you can review the act on the Michigan Legislature website or check out Michigan’s Freedom of Information Act publication prepared by the Office of the Attorney General.

Sincerely,

Office of Retirement Services
